Eric Conway: Theatre Morgan opens with Glass Menagerie Fri., Sept. 27, 2019, 7:30 PM!

Dr. Eric Conway writes:

Hello All,

I am excited to share with you Theatre Morgan’s first production of the season:  Tennessee Williams’ most popular play, The Glass Menagerie.   Williams’ play has been critically reviewed and awarded over the years, representing the best that American playwrights have to offer.  The play is directed by Theatre Arts faculty member, Reginald Phoenix.  If you are available, please try to attend one of the eight performances planned – see flyer attached with all performances listed.  Hope to see you at the theatre!

Eric

Jones Memorial: Open enrollment is coming: IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER

WELLSVILLE, NY  – Although Open Enrollment for the New York State Health Insurance Marketplace and Medicare managed care plans begins in a few weeks, it’s not too early to start looking at what health insurance plan best provides the coverage you will need in 2020.  Below are some tips to help with your planning.

Why Prepare Ahead of Time?  Open Enrollment is often the only time of the year when you can select a health insurance plan for the following year.  Looking at your current and previous year’s health expenses will help you understand which plan may work best for you.  Be sure and also consider if your primary care provider, specialists, and hospitals you would most likely use accept the plans that you are considering. That’s because if you select a health insurance plan that your doctors or hospitals do not accept, you will likely end up paying more or all of the charges for those services.  You can view the list of health insurances accepted at Jones Memorial Hospital and its affiliated specialists at jones.urmc.edu (look for Financial Assistance under Patients & Family).

Know Your Dates:  Enrollment for Medicare managed care plans runs Oct. 15 to December 7, 2019; New York State Health Insurance Marketplace enrollment runs Nov. 1, 2019 to Jan. 31, 2020.

How to Get Answers to Your Questions:
·         Jones Memorial Hospital:  Patient Financial Consultants can help answer your questions and even enroll you in a plan on the NYS Health Exchange or Medicaid.  (585) 596-4040 or (585) 596-4039.
·         Trained professionals at the Allegany County Office for the Aging can answer questions about insurance options, like Medicare. (585) 268-9390

Mitrano supports inquiry into President Trump’s communications with Ukraine

PRESS RELEASE

PENN YAN – Saying “The news out of the White House this week is very troubling, and the American people deserve to know more,” Democratic congressional candidate Tracy Mitrano (NY-23) came out in favor of an inquiry into President Trump’s communications with the President of Ukraine as described in a whistleblower complaint.
“In light of the White House’s unwillingness to cooperate with normal due process, I support a congressional impeachment inquiry and investigation into this whistleblower’s report about misuse of executive authority,” says Mitrano, who is a lawyer by profession.
“Partisan politics used to stop at the waters edge,” says Mitrano. “Our nation needs to be united in supporting our foreign allies and keep DC politics out of it. The White House is not merely President Trump’s private office. It sets the tone for American law and ethics, both foreign and domestic.
“Congress allocated $391 million in military assistance to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression,” Mitrano added. “It serves American interests to keep Russia at bay. The President does not have the authority to gamble with American interests by withholding funds.
“It is doubly troubling for him to use those funds as a bargaining chip in exchange for partisan purposes,” she says. “The people of New York’s 23rd District expect more, much more, from whoever occupies the Oval Office, Republican or Democrat. Let’s set the record straight: no one is above the law.”

Federal Health Care Fraud Takedown in Northeastern U.S. Results in Charges Against 48 Individuals, including Cuba, NY resident

The Justice Department today announced a coordinated health care fraud enforcement action across seven federal districts in the Northeastern United States, involving more than $800 million in loss and the distribution of over 3.25 million pills of opioids in “pill mill” clinics.  The takedown includes new charges against 48 defendants for their roles in submitting over $160 million in fraudulent claims, including charges against 15 doctors or medical professionals, and 24 who were charged for their roles in diverting opioids.

Among those charged in the Western District of New York are the following:
Karen Melton, 45, of Cuba, New York, was charged with obtaining controlled substances through fraud.  Melton, a medical secretary working for a physician in Olean, New York, was not licensed to prescribe controlled substances.  However, Melton allegedly used her access within the office to issue fraudulent prescriptions in her own name in both paper and electronic form.  The prescriptions were allegedly issued without a legitimate medical purpose.  Between September 2016 and May 2019, Melton allegedly issued 59 fraudulent prescriptions for controlled substances, including hydrocodone.  The DEA conducted the investigation.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael J. Adler and Misha A. Coulson.
