Mike Bloomberg unveils $10 million Super Bowl but focuses on gun violence and DOESN’T attack Donald Trump who has also bought a slot during the game

Michael Bloomberg is using his $10 million Super Bowl ad to highlight the work he has done to combat gun violence and enact stricter gun control laws.

The ad will air Sunday as counter-programming to President Donald Trump’s ad spot and his pre-game interview with Sean Hannity on FOX.

The combatting ads will both air for 60 seconds, but instead of Bloomberg unveiling an attack ad, like has been reported, the spot will feature a mother who lost her son to gun violence.

The focus underscores the former Republican New York City mayor’s efforts to contrast himself with Trump.

Hot Tar Civil Suit Settled

OCEAN CITY- Although the terms have not been disclosed, a civil suit filed by a resort-area resident after burning his feet on a freshly-paved section of Coastal Highway was settled last week.

According to complaint, on May 11, 2018 around 1 p.m., local resident Scott Berry was returning from the beach and crossing Coastal Highway from east to west in the area of 36th Street in a marked crosswalk when he suffered severe burns on both of his feet. The plaintiff crossed Coastal Highway in an area that was recently repaved with fresh asphalt as part of a larger paving project.

The plaintiff originally filed suit in Worcester County Circuit Court against George and Lynch, Inc., the contractor hired by the State Highway Administration (SHA) to complete the Coastal Highway paving project. The case was then moved to U.S. District Court in May 2019. The plaintiff was seeking unspecified damages in excess of $75,000, or what is essentially the jumping-off point for similar civil suits.

New York police arrest six suspects in $7M drug ring, judge releases them without bail

A New York criminal court has released six suspected drug traffickers from jail without bail under the state’s new criminal justice law.

Suspects Livo Valdez, Jaslin Baldera, Frederick Baldera, Frandi Ledema, Diego Tejada, and Parfraimy Antonio walked out of Manhattan Criminal Court on Wednesday morning, according to the New York Post. Assistant District Attorney Michael Di Paolo said during the hearing that “none of the defendants are eligible for bail.”

The New York Drug Enforcement Task Force raided an apartment on Monday and found all six suspects packing hundreds of thousands of glassine envelopes with powdered drugs valued at $7 million. Officers believe the suspects were preparing to distribute the drugs over New York and New England.

The suspects’ passports were taken, and each man is due back in court on Feb. 27.

Despite Insurance Gains, More in US Can’t Afford Doctors

A growing number of Americans find it too expensive to see doctors even though more people have health insurance, a U.S. study suggests.

Over the past two decades, the proportion of adults without insurance dropped to 14.8% from 16.9%, the study found. But during this same period, the proportion of adults unable to afford doctor visits climbed from 11.4% to 15.7%.

Out-of-pocket costs made doctors too expensive for the uninsured, but costs also kept people with coverage from seeing physicians even when they had chronic medical conditions requiring regular checkups.

For people with health benefits, the proportion unable to pay for doctor visits rose from 7.1% to 11.5%.

“The quality of private health insurance is getting worse, and the cost of healthcare is rising significantly,” said lead study author Dr. Laura Hawks of the Cambridge Health Alliance and Harvard Medical School in Boston.

“We know that private health insurance plans increasing rely on high premiums, high-deductible health plans . . . high copays and other forms of cost-sharing,” Hawks said by email. “All these create financial barriers.”

Fox News Cuts Away from President Trump’s Impeachment Defense

Fox News cut away from President Donald Trump’s defense in his Senate impeachment trial several times on Monday in favor of panel discussions or interviews rather than the live feed of the proceedings.

Fox spent much of the 5 p.m. EST program hour with its popular panel discussions show, The Five. Later, it cut away during The Story with Martha McCallum for interviews with former Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA), among others.

Video footage of President Trump’s legal team making their arguments continued to play, but the audio was muted.

Other, competing cable news networks — including those openly hostile to President Trump, including MSNBC and CNN — remained with the live video and audio feed from the floor of the U.S. Senate, as they had done during the House Democrat impeachment managers’ opening arguments against the president last week.

Smith: A Veteran’s Perspective – None of the Democrat Candidates Are Fit to Lead

I am a veteran of the United States Army. I served two tours in the Middle-East, including one in Iraq. I’m proud of my service and America. And I am terrified of what will become of our beloved military and our national security if any of the Democrats I saw take the Debate stage on Tuesday night become America’s Commander-In-Chief.

Watching the top-tier candidates for president on the left blunder their way through answers on Middle-East policy while engaging in half-truths about the War in Iraq and the Iran/U.S. tensions from a few weeks ago made me profoundly uncomfortable. While septuagenarian multimillionaires argue about the Iraq war vote from 17 years ago, the lone veteran on stage outright lies about the origins behind the decision to kill Qasem Soleimani, and the billionaire who has no real reason to be there goes on about “climate change” as if it’s the primary threat to the lives of Americans, soldiers, and veterans realize they’re left with a sorry group of people aiming to be president of the United States.

The back and forth between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders about the initial vote to authorize the Iraq war points to a fundamental misunderstanding of where we’re at now in terms of our troop presence in Iraq and the issues that America will face in deciding if and when we will vastly reduce the amount of troops we have there. Sanders wears his “no” vote on the Iraq war like a badge of honor to shine his virtue towards his socialist base and supporters. While being anti-war and American interventionism isn’t necessarily a bad thing, nor is critique of the origins of the war itself, what Sanders misses is that no matter what his vote was then, we’re in Iraq now. Veterans and active-duty soldiers don’t want 17-year-later Monday-morning quarterbacking about the vote; we want an answer to the issues facing troops in the region now.

Sailors and Firemen.

It tells the truth, by a woman who has given the supreme sacrifice, her son.

‘THE SALTY SAILOR’ and the ‘FIREMAN’.

Read this once, pause for a minute or two to think honestly about it, then read it again. I can find no fault with it…

The views this mother has about Donald Trump are much like many other people. Her characterization of President Trump as the “Salty Sailor” or, as “The Fireman,” paint an excellent picture!! She has written many great books about her son and family. This is a comment from KAREN VAUGHN, mother of Aaron Vaughn, U. S. Navy Seal.

“Sometimes God uses the no-nonsense, salty sailor to get the job done. Appreciating what the man is doing doesn’t mean we worship the salty sailor or even desire to be like the salty sailor. It doesn’t even mean God admires the salty sailor. Maybe ‘He’ just knows he’s necessary for such a time as this.

I believe with all my heart that God placed that salty sailor in the White House to give this nation one more chance in November 2020. Donald Trump is what he is – and he is still the man he was before the election – and without guilt. I very much admire what that ‘salty sailor’ is accomplishing.

He’s not like me. That’s ‘Okay’ with me. I don’t want to be like him. I will never behave like him. I know we’ve NEVER had a man like him lead our nation before. It’s crazy and a little mind-blowing at times, but I can’t help admire the stamina and ability he has – acting with his heart rather than a calculated, PC, think tank-screened, carefully edited script. I still believe that is’ WHY’ he became our President and ‘WHY’ he’s been able to handle a landslide of adversity and STILL pass unprecedented amounts of good
legislation for our country AND do great works for MANY other nations, including Israel.

I’m ‘THRILLED’ with what he’s doing for my nation, for the cause of Christ (whether intentional or unintentional, doesn’t matter to me), and for the concept of rebuilding America and putting her FIRST. I will not be ashamed of my position because others don’t see him through the same lens.

Should it matter to me if, a fireman drops an f-bomb while he’s pulling me from a burning building? Would I really care about what came out of his mouth in those moments? Heck no! I’d CARE about what he was DOING. He wasn’t sent there to save my soul and I’m not looking to him for spiritual guidance. All I’m thinking in those moments is, “Thank you, GOD, for sending the fireman.” AND DONALD TRUMP IS ‘OUR FIREMAN’.

I’ll soon post this article again for those who still might not understand me. This man is crass. ‘Okay.’ He’s not careful with what he says. ‘Okay.’ You feel offended that he’s not a typical statesman. ‘Okay.’ But he is DOING THE JOB of rebuilding the nation my son died for…the nation I feared was on a fast track to becoming a hopeless cause.

“Forgive me if I’m smiling.”

Burger King claims it NEVER said its Impossible Whoppers were vegan after chain is sued for cooking plant-based patties on same grills as meat

Burger King is claiming it never advertised its ‘Impossible Whopper’ as vegan after a customer sued the company for cooking the plant-based pattie on the same grill as meat burgers.

The company claims it was open about the way its plant-based burger was cooked and that the customer’s claim ‘has no basis’.

A vegan customer sued the fast-food chain in November saying he was ‘duped’ into buying the Impossible Whopper at a premium price.

The customer is seeking damages on behalf of all U.S. consumers who bought it.
