ELECTIONS WILL BE FREE AND FAIR, PRESIDENT BUHARI REASSURES THE NATION

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday visited Yenagoa, Bayelsa State and Port Harcourt, Rivers State where he assured that he is all out for free, fair and credible elections starting on Saturday.

Speaking at a meeting with traditional rulers at the secretariat complexes of the Councils of Traditional Rulers of the two states, the President said:

“I assure you that I’m all out for free, fair and credible elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC knows my stand on this.

“Nigerians are assured of free and fair elections. Under this leadership, nobody will be allowed to intimidate other citizens. Nobody will be allowed to snatch ballot boxes and run with them. I will make sure that the votes count.”

President Buhari commended the introduction of the Permanent Voters Card, PVC and Card Reader, and urged the nation to embrace the technology, arguing that without it, the sixteen years of misrule by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP would not have been brought to an end.

“In 16 years, the PDP thought nobody could remove them from office. The introduction of the PVC and Card Reader made sure that our votes counted in 2015 and the votes of Nigerians will count in 2019,” he stressed.

On the issue of security, the President repeated his commitment to ensure the protection of lives, property and the territorial integrity of the nation, while urging the traditional rulers to play their part as expected of them.

“The question of security begins with you,” the President told the royal fathers, even as he commended them for calming down the restive situation in the Niger Delta.

“Through you, we have been able to persuade the militants to change their attitudes. I congratulate you on the roles you played that stabilized the security and the economy of the country,” he said.

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, at the reception commended President Buhari for his statesmanship and love for the country.

On his part, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State called for a peaceful conduct of the elections.

The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty Alfred Diette-Spiff, who commended the President for the appointment of citizens of Bayelsa into key positions and the infrastructure projects being put in place, added that the state deserved more.

His counterpart in Rivers State, Dr. Dandeson Douglas Jaja, King Jaja of Opobo, while calling for free and fair elections, also appealed to the President to ensure that security agents remained non-partisan throughout the exercise.

Only Buhari has our backing in APC – SDP cautions members

Only Buhari has our backing in APC – SDP cautions members, says it is supporting only SDP candidates at other levels
Only Buhari has our backing in APC – SDP cautions members, says it is supporting only SDP candidates at other levels

The Social Democratic Party in Ughelli South Local Government of Delta State, has disclosed that the party was not supporting any other APC candidate apart from President Muhammadu Buhari.

The party in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Chairman, Mr. Jonathan Idoro, the party denied throwing it’s weight behind the All Progressive Congress, APC House of Reps’s candidate, Francis Waive.

It said that it remained strongly in support of SDP’s candidate, Hon. Solomon Awhinawhi, a serving lawmaker at the national parliament.

According to Idoro, the understanding reached by SDP at the National level only starts and ends with supporting President Muhammadu Buhari only for the presidential election.

He, however, cautioned that any SDP member caught endorsing any other party’s candidate will be dealt with through application of proper sanctions.

“Following concerns raised recently, the Social Democratic Party in Ughelli South Local Government wishes to state that at no time did the party endorse or support the APC’s house of reps candidate, Francis Waive.

“Let it be made clear that we stand strongly behind our candidate, Hon. Solomon Awhinawhi, a serving member who is contesting to represent Udu, Ughelli South and Ughelli North federal constituency.

“We also wish to draw the attention of all members of the party that going forward, any attempt to work against the collective interest of the party will attract sanctions in accordance with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

“The understanding reached by the National body of our party to support the Presidential candidate of the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari, was done owing to the inability of our party to present a presidential candidate in good time,” it said.

Why there is no alternative to Buhari, Osinbajo

It is with a deep sense of concern, love and passion for security, unity and development of our country that I feel the need to bring this message across to Nigerians at this critical time in our nation .

Recall that at the time it was predicted by some people in United States of America that Nigeria would disintegrate and possibly cease to exist by the year 2015. But God felt otherwise and enthroned a man as the President of Nigeria, to doggedly work, not only to sustain the unity of Nigeria, but also ensure it did not cease to exist, and today we are in 2019.

Recall also that at the time our country was witnessing intense terrorism with Boko Haram terrorists wrecking havoc, killing, maiming citizens and taking over towns and villages, God gave us a man who together with his vice and team led concerted and sustained military onslaughts against the Boko Haram. Today, not only has the destructive activities of Boko Haram been diminished, the towns and villages hitherto captured by them have been recovered and the people who fled their homes have returned.

Even though the gains made in the routing of Boko Haram were being lost by the killings perpetrated by herdsmen, the situation now is that of relative peace and calm all over the country as the so called Fulani herdsmen killings has been curtailed considerably.

Recall that at the time the price of crude oil, the mainstay of the Nigerian economy, started to fall from over $130/barrel to below $38/barrel that later propelled the economy into recession, occasioned by accumulated poor economic indices of successive administrations. God gave us a man with the qualities of prudence and financial discipline, who deployed these qualities to tackle the effects of this steep fall in crude oil price and consequently wriggle out of recession in a record time while some countries like Venezuela are still struggling with the worst economic crises.

Recall also that at a time this country was almost at the verge of implosion as a consequence of years of impunity in governance, bribery and corruption, which prompted the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria to compose two sets of prayers (prayers against bribery and corruption in Nigeria and prayer for Nigeria in distress) being said at every Mass, God in answer to the prayers chose a man generally acclaimed by Nigerians and non Nigerians alike as a man of unequal integrity who is averse to corruption, to lead the nation.

No sooner had this man emerged as the president than he swung into action to deal with corruption head on. Today this vigorous fight against corruption by the Buhari administration is yielding positive results as those who were known to have looted the treasury are not only being unmasked and prosecuted, but such looted funds are being recovered. Briefcase businesses that usually thrived on the fraudulent subsidy claims, government contract papers and laundering of looted funds have been eliminated and sundry drainpipes of the economy being plugged.

It is no longer business as usual as government parastatals and agencies now remit funds due to the federal government via the Treasury Single Account (TSA), instead of multiple bank accounts that made it easier for funds belonging to federal government to be diverted to private accounts for private use.

As we all already know, the poor state of our economy today could be linked to the triple problems of insecurity, corruption and the effect of drastic fall in the price of crude oil, made worse by the destructive activities of Niger Deltaelta Avengers at the inception of the current administration.

The emergence of President of Muhammadu Buhari and his vice, Professor Yomi Osinbajo, in 2015 was a divine intervention as we know that God who is all knowing does not err. Suffice it to say that President Buhari and Professor Osinbajo have God’s given mandate to rescue and sanitize this country from the effects of the problems enumerated above.

Not withstanding the terrible state of affairs, this administration has brought about disciplined and prudent management of the nation’s scarce resources, pragmatically addressing the problems of the already battered economy. This can be attested to by the way the real and manufacturing sectors are being strengthened. The ban placed on the importation of a number of products has resulted in the revival of hitherto moribund indigenous manufacturing companies.

We are witnesses to wind of revolution happening in the agricultural sector with a resultant reduction in the importation of rice and other agricultural products. There is indeed a manifest commitment to the diversification of the nation’s economy away from crude oil. We see today, massive infrastructural development with the construction of hundreds of thousands of kilometres of roads, construction and completion of rail lines across all the six geopolitical zones of the country. The second Niger bridge is no longer a project on paper for political campaigns, but has now become a practical reality as its construction is practically ongoing.

In the area of power generation and distribution, we have not had it so good in terms of availability of power in Nigeria’s history. There is tremendous improvement in power generation and distribution as against what prevailed in the past when over $16 billion was spent with nothing to show for it.

We wouldn’t have imagined that in the last three and half years, there wouldn’t have been fuel scarcity, especially during festive seasons. Yes, no fuel scarcity for the past three and half years that President Buhari has been in power. Don’t forget what we were used to before May 2015 in terms of fuel availability.

In spite of the unrelenting attacks, campaign of calumny, insults, lies and all manner of negative propaganda across the social media directed against the President Buhari, he has remained focussed in carrying out the sanitisation and growing the economy of this country.

It is pertinent to recall that no sooner had President Buhari assumed office than he was confronted with health issues, which at some occasions kept him away from the country for several weeks. This provided for some people, the opportunity to vilify him and wished him dead. But God made him recover to bounce back to good health, looking even fresher . Those who wished him dead were thus put to shame as they are going to be put to shame again after 16th February, 2019.

For the past three and half years, Mr President has been contending with forces who want to pull him down to create the impression of non performance. The national assembly under the leadership of Senator Bukola Saraki and Rt. Hon Dogara is not left out in this game of pull-him- down syndrome. How else would you describe a situation where the budget is presented in November of a particular year only for it to be passed in September of the next?

In spite of all that, President Buhari has been resolute in his principle of non- interference with the legislative functions. This is the man severally branded a dictator prior to the 2015 election, who now turned out to be the most democratic in contrast to the previous elected presidents. He is a humble president not given to vengeance and witch hunting. He is soft spoken, accommodating and not given to hate speeches and character assassination.

It is my view and the views of many other Nigerians that there is No Alternative To Buhari-Osinbajo to completely lead this country out of security and economic crises and make it stronger after May 2019. Of all the contenders for the presidential seat, none is a match to him. It is very sad and unfortunate that those who led us to the unfortunate situation we face today have now ganged up, united and conspiring to come back .

Yes they have flocked together as birds of the same feather to squander the over $45 billions in our foreign reserve and reverse the gains we have made so far, to drag our country further down economically. Recall that it was only $29 billion left by PDP government in 2015. It is, therefore, our patriotic as well as our civic responsibility to passionately alert everyone of the grave danger of allowing the hawks to come back again. We can not afford to go back to our vomit.

Our dear president and his vice are tackling the problems that were brought upon us for over 16 years running, just like a loving father will administer bitter pills to heal his sick children. Nigeria as it were is sick and receiving painful treatment. We must be patient and give President Buhari our unalloyed support.

Let’s not expect that our country that has suffered for over 16 years maladministration would be remedied in three and a half years, knowing that it is easier & quicker to destroy than to rebuild. Let us galvanize support and mobilize to vote President Buhari again on this rescue mission of our country and move our dear country to the next level.

President Buhari not only expressed, he has also extended deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims. He also wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.

The figure also indicates a rise of 0.55% points when compared with the growth rate recorded in Q3 2018.

On a quarter on quarter basis, real GDP growth was 5.31%.

“The fourth quarter growth performance implies that real GDP grew at an annual growth rate of 1.93% in 2018, compared to 0.82% recorded in 2017, an increase of 1.09% points”, NBS said.

During the quarter, aggregate nominal GDP stood at N35.23 trillion, which is higher than N31.275 trillion recorded in Q4 2017, a nominal growth rate of 12.65%.

PDP Set To Cause Panic Days To Polls – FG

The Federal Government said it has uncovered a last-minute desperate plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to orchestrate a crisis and trigger a sense of panic among the populace, in furtherance of their plan to discredit Saturday’s election and cause a constitutional crisis.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the plot confirms the alarm raised by the Federal Government on Jan. 21st and Feb. 3rd 2019 that the PDP is planning to scuttle the election and, where that fails, discredit it.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed a
He said in the days ahead, PDP bigwigs, including its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, his running mate Peter Obi, PDP Governors and others, are planning a world press conference in order to level frivolous and unfounded allegations against the federal government and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alhaji Mohammed said that part of the false allegations they plan to make is that the Presidency, in connivance with the APC, is planning to force the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to announce presidential election results that are favourable to the government in power, on the basis of the false premise that the APC’s intelligence team is worried that the ruling party would lose the elections.

He said the PDP bigwigs also plan to use their world press conference to further disparage the Buhari Administration as well as the ruling APC, with a view to painting an unfavourable image of both to Nigerians and the international community and to put the government on the defensive in the run-up to the polls.

The Minister said the PDP’s last joker is a two-hour live press conference to be addressed by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan, on Feb. 14th, the last day of electioneering campaign, to chronicle all their concocted allegations and lies against the ruling government, cast aspersion on government and ruling party officials and throw innuendos here and there.

”As electioneering campaign winds down, the PDP has realised that it cannot possibly win a free, fair and credible polls. It has thus resorted to engaging in red herring, hauling insults and abuses at federal government and ruling party officials and making outlandish allegations with a view to creating a sense of panic and crisis.

”The truth is that President Muhammadu Buhari, a man respected globally for his integrity, has continuously assured that the elections will be free, fair, credible and peaceful. He has warmly welcomed observers, both local and foreign., because he has nothing to hide, and because he is sure that the achievements of his Administration will win him re-election.

”We are therefore calling on all Nigerians and the international community to disregard any attempt to scuttle or discredit the polls. We urge observers to keep an open mind.

There is no cause for alarm, except in the warped imagination of the PDP, which has entered the panic mode and is already ruing the loss of another general election even before it has been held,” he said.

Amosun Embarrassed Buhari, Leaders With Thugs- APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) said the attack on President Muhammadu Buhari, party chairman Adams Oshiomhole, and other leaders at a rally in Abeokuta on Monday was sponsored by Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Hoodlums, carrying Allied Peoples Movement banners threw objects at the president after he raised the hand of Dapo Abiodun, the APC governorship candidate in the state, at the campaign rally in Abeokuta. Securitymen hurriedly shielded the president.

Lanre Issa-Onilu, APC spokesman, said the party “will review this gross misconduct of deliberately positioning thugs to attack and embarrass the President and the party’s leadership.”

He said any plan to destroy what this party stands for would be rejected.

“The APC regrets Monday’s premeditated attacks sponsored by Governor Ibikunle Amosun on President Muhammadu Buhari and other senior party leaders at the venue of the presidential campaign rally in Ogun state,” he said.

“This is one act of indiscipline too many. The APC will not condone acts of indiscipline, indiscretion and anti-party activities from any party member no matter how highly placed.

“The party will review this gross misconduct of deliberately positioning thugs to attack and embarrass the President and the party’s leadership. No single person will be allowed to put his personal and selfish interests ahead of the wishes of the people of Ogun state and elsewhere.

We’ll Recover $16bn Wasted On Power’ — Again Buhari Hints At Probing Obasanjo

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to recover the $16 billion dollars allegedly wasted on the power sector when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential rally in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, on Tuesday, the president vowed to go after the people who mismanaged the money meant for the development of the sector.

In 2018, Buhari said a former president had questions to answer over the power expenditure from 1999-2007.

In 2008, the house of representatives had described $16 billion spent on power by former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government as colossal waste.

“You know we are building roads; the railway was virtually killed we are rebuilding it and there was no power, we are bringing power back,” he said.

“The previous government mentioned on their own that they spent 16 billion American dollars for power. But you are better witnesses than myself.

Where is the power? Where is the money? We will follow them and eventually God willing we will get them and we will get our money back.

“We are also promising that we will make people who occupy executive positions both in federal and state levels to be accountable to the people. If you could recall when I came in 2015 under our great party, the party articulated three issues which we campaign and were voted on. These are security, economy and fighting corruption.”
