R-APC MEETS PRESIDENT BUHARI TODAY

•R-APC makes 7 demands from Buhari
•Holds make-or-break meeting with president today
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC)  are to hold a make-or-break meeting with the leaders of the Reformed-All Progressives Congress (R-APC) at the Presidential Villa, later today.
The meeting is planned as a follow-up to the one held by the president, the APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole alongside some governors with Senate President Bukola Saraki, at the villa on Thursday.
Saraki and a number of opposition leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had met at his Ilorin home after a victory rally held by the Senate President at the ancient town.
The victory dance was aimed at celebrating Saraki’s victory at the Supreme Court over his long-drawn legal battle to prove his innocence on the allegations of false asset declaration preferred against him by the Federal Government.
The meeting in Ilorin had apparently got the leadership of the APC and the Presidency jittery as Saraki was promptly invited to the Presidential Villa, Abuja for peace talks.
Sources had said that the national chairman of APC was the first to initiate the peace moves with   Saraki.
The Senate president, according to sources, asked if Oshiomhole had the mandate of the president to initiate the talks.
According to the source, it was when Oshiomhole answered in the affirmative that Saraki agreed to sit down with him for talks.
The preliminary talk between Oshiomhole and Saraki was to yield the Thursday’s meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, which had some APC governors in attendance alongside the president.
Sources at the meeting said that President Buhari promised to sign any agreement that would forestall the defection of Saraki and other bigwigs to the opposition PDP.
The follow-up meeting is scheduled for evening hours of Sunday, July 22.
Sources said that the leadership of R-APC has perfected a number of demands, which they hoped the president could sign if he wished to retain them in the APC.
No fewer than seven of such demands are said to have been placed on the table at the weekend.
A source said that one of the demands is the retention of Senate President Bukola Saraki as Senate President in the new dispensation, the retention of Speaker Yakubu Dogara as Speaker of the new dispensation from 2019 as well as the return of party structures to members of R-APC, who have been displaced by the APC hierarchy in the process of the last national convention.
A source also said that the R-APC is also seeking the dissolution of state executives of the APC that emerged through parallel congresses, while the National Convention must also be properly constituted to ensure an executive that could stand the test of time.
Added to that is the need for automatic return tickets to all members of the R-APC in the Senate and House of Representatives ahead of the 2019 election.
It was gathered that though the R-APC has not formally called for a cessation of legal hostilities against its members who have been dragged to court on different counts, some emissaries of the presidency who visited the likes of Senators Danjuma Goje and Aliyu Wamakko had hinted that a cessation of legal hostilities could be in the offing against many of the affected R-APC members.
“A high-powered delegation of the Presidency visited Senator Danjuma Goje last week where it was promised that his impending case could be softened. Another of such delegation had also visited some top and influential R-APC members.

The plan is to cause a division in the R-APC and stall the mass defection. One key part of the agenda is to prevent the R-APC and the PDP from gaining majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The meeting on Sunday at the Villa will decide the fate of the APC, the  R-APC and the planned merger with the PDP,” a source stated

NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT APPEALS FOR UNITY AND COOPERATION IN DEALING WITH HERDER-FARMER CONFLICT

The Presidency is appealing to all its citizens as well as members of the international community to refrain from spreading false stories and inflammatory statements concerning the recent herder-farmer clashes.

The Nigerian Government is working closely with State governments and the Security Services – as well as international partners – in order to resolve this ongoing issue.

The clashes between herders and farmers are historical. The causes of these confrontations are varied and complex.

Climate change, specifically the drying up of the Chad Basin, has led to more pressure on the population in the North of Nigeria, which further compounded the problem.

As President Buhari indicated lately, there is evidence of involvement of some politicians using criminals to perpetuate the killings.

Climate change is an issue of global significance and the Nigerian Government is determined to continue working closely with its neighbours in order to ensure that a long-term solution can be implemented.

The Federal Government makes no distinction amongst the population and works tirelessly to protect all Nigerian people.

We are strongest as a nation when we are united and it is through unity that we will overcome this challenge.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 6: BUHARI ACQUIRES A BIG STICK AGAINST CORRUPTION.

BY GARBA SHEHU

Nigeria’s widespread corruption, which has been eating the eco-system like termites, met on audacious response from President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday afternoon with the signing of a new Executive Order No.6 on preservation of assets connected with corruption. President Buhari holds the view that after three years in office it was another good time to further review the achievements of the administration and set goals in a key policy area, the anti-corruption war.

On the basis of the re-appraisals made, the President said that it had become “necessary to re-kit and re-tool our arsenal to be able to affectively tackle corruption’s perilous counter-attack against the Nigerian State.”  As a result, the Federal Government of Nigeria had “declared a national emergency to deal with that crisis.” President Buhari came into power in 2015 vowing to fight corruption which had been undermining the country’s economy, politics, governance and entire society.

The government is of the understanding that corruption is one of Nigeria’s major challenges; one that had obstructed the country’s drive to realise its full potentials. Most citizens believe that corruption is holding the country by the jugular and must be tackled if we are to make progress and make meaning of our lives. Since the war against corruption unleashed by President Buhari took hold, significant strides had been achieved. Vehicles of fraud and embezzlement have been stopped dead in their tracks; enabled with the implementation of the Bank Verification Number policy and signing the Open Government Partnership and rebuilding the anti-corruption institutions, and generally the country’s highly improved corporate governance.

Fifty thousand ghost workers were deleted from monthly payroll, saving an annual N200 billion in payments; ghost pensioners have in their thousands been fished out and with vigour and precision, millions of bank accounts with suspicious cash deposits are being investigated. A large number of senior public officials are being investigated and a huge sum of money including buildings, estates, ships and automobiles have been seized. Former Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha’s money, USD326 million was recovered and will be distributed to the poor.

The Buhari administration has so far investigated and jailed ex-governors, ministers, generals and a large number of public officials. All of these efforts are building up to an ecosystem that is pro-poor, people oriented, clean, transparent and one that doesn’t tolerate corruption. Based on all these, Nigeria’s anti-corruption war under President Buhari, striking and visible as it is, has aroused interests both locally and internationally. The President is currently serving as the Champion of Anti-corruption for the entire continent, selected by his peers in the African Union.

It is an established fact that, all over the world, deep-rooted corruption is always difficult to deal with. It is mostly hidden. It is hard to detect, and as we have seen in dealing with the world’s economic powers, they love, cherish and nurture it in countries like ours by holding onto stolen assets against all efforts to retrieve them. But there are signs that things are changing.

Every day, harsh words against the government are all that the President gets from Wadata House, the Head Office of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, because their leaders, as do some other Nigerians are already feeling the heat. To say the truth, I am not sure if there are many of our citizens who expected any PDP support for the President in his war against corruption.

In spite of all the achievements recorded, you still hear complaints that the anti-corruption isn’t as dramatic as Nigerians wished it to be. Some want the country to do it the Chinese way. Others say the government is not arresting the powerful people.

For the Buhari administration, concern lies in the fact that corruption has become a big problem because investigation, prosecution and trial in courts are made harder by persons accused of crimes relating to it. They are using the enormous resources in their possession to thwart the system. The President’s view is that, it is only a clean Nigeria that can attract foreign investment, free money for more of the capital projects the administration is executing and creating jobs for our teeming population of young men and women.

The President says in the interest of justice and the welfare of the Nigerian state, persons accused of crimes relating to corruption must be prevented from utilizing the proceeds and dissipating such assets suspected to be proceeds of corruption (or associated with corruption) pending final determination of any investigation or legal actions related to such assets or owners thereof.

In signing the new Executive Order, he said: “I’m bound to restrict dealings in suspicious assets…to preserve same in accordance with the rule of law and with guarantee and safeguard of fundamental human rights.” A person who feels that his rights are infringed is free to go to a high court. To understand the threat posed to our democracy and economy by unchecked access to stolen or illicit funds, the President cited the large volume of cash government is fight to retrieve through the legal system.

The aggregate value of those funds involved in some of the on-going prosecution of high profile corruption cases is N595,409,838,452.25k. This amount is more than what has been budgeted this year for the all-important Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (N344 billion) and social Investment (N500b), intended for millions of Nigerians through programs such as the N-Power Graduate Employment Scheme, the Conditional Cash Transfer, CCT to the poorest of the power and GEEP (Government Economic Empowerment Programme).

The 2018 budget which has made the highest appropriation ever in the sum of N344 billion to the Ministry of Works is to be spent on the following roads:

– Lagos-Shagamu-Ibadan Dual Carriageway

– Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa-Bokani Road

– Kano-Maiduguri Road

– Enugu-Port-Harcourt Dual Carriageway

– Odukpani-Itu-Ikot-Ekpene Road

– Sokoto-Tambuwal -Jega-Kontagora-Mokwa Road

– Dualization of Ojabana to Benin Road

– Calabar-Ugep-Katsina-Ala Road

– Onitsha-Enugu Dual Carriageway

– Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway

– Benin-Ofosu-Ore-Ajebandele-Sagamu expressway phase III

– Kontagora-Bangi Road

The amount of money voted this year for these roads therefore translates to about 57% of the monies recovered by the on-going high-profile corruption cases. The defendants in these cases have unrestricted access to these funds using it as a war chest. They have used it to stall administrative and judicial processes. No gainsaying that it is impossible to achieve any meaningful progress in the fight against corruption where there is no effective law enforcement and prosecution of offenders via an effective justice system. In simple terms, the idea of the new Executive Order is to ensure that criminal elements are prevented from using their illicit resources to “allure, pervert and/or intimidate the investigative and judicial process.”

The purpose of the Executive Order is not to forfeit peoples properties but rather temporarily deny access which can be used to corrupt or interfere with the investigative and judicial processes. Equally, it is not intended to, and cannot take over the powers and functions of statutory agencies with prosecutorial powers or create new ones. Rather, this is designed to activate existing provisions of the law on freezing of assets and to establish a system of coordination under the office of the Attorney-General, who has constitutional powers over all prosecutions.

Henceforth, it will be a criminal offence to violate the Executive Order. Prosecution authorities will, in all future prosecutions, file application to freeze the assets implicated before, or alongside the charge information sheet. For cases that are on-going, such application shall be filed within seven days of this Executive Order.

As provided by the law and the constitution, the President is empowered to “abolish all corrupt practices and abuse of power”. It is in his determination to fully execute this function that he declared a national emergency to deal with the threat posed by corruption. While it will definitely take a while for the President Buhari war against corruption to penetrate the lower rungs of government and society, a pervasive canker that had been a part of daily working life of the nation for so long, there is no doubt that the daring response through this Executive Order will go a long way in fast tracking that process.

Finally, then, is to state that a win for President Buhari in 2019 in next year’s general elections is the best way to provide a good and stable leadership for tackling the problems of corruption in Nigeria.

INTRODUCTORY REMARKS ON THE DEBATE OF THE AFRICAN ANTI-CORRUPTION YEAR BY H.E. MUHAMMADU BUHARI PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA IN NOUAKCHOTT, MAURITANIA 1stJULY, 2018

PROTOCOLS:

It gives me pleasure to deliver these introductory remarks during our debate on the African Anti-Corruption Year.

2.      Let me also take this opportunity to thank your Excellencies for the continued support provided to me in driving and amplifying the African Union anti-corruption agenda.
3.      Your unwavering support remains a strong source of strength and encouragement as we look forward to an even more vigorous second half of this year.

Excellencies,
Distinguished Ladies & Gentlemen

4.      Since we last convened in Addis Ababa in January, much has been done to promote the anti-corruption message.

5.      It is on this note that I wish to take this opportunity to heartily congratulate the Republic of Mauritius for ratifying the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combatting Corruption and thus becoming the 40th State Party to the Convention. We look forward to continued engagement and participation of Mauritius in the African Anti-Corruption effort.

6.      I also call on all other Member States that have not yet done so to take all necessary measures to sign and ratify the Convention with a view to achieving its universal ratification during this calendar year.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

7.      During the last 6 months, we have engaged in multi-sectoral dialogue with a broad range of actors including parliamentarians, national anti-corruption agencies, civil society, media, youth and women groups and development partners. We have convened three (3) different regional Consultative Workshops in line with my campaign programme in an effort to sensitize our people on the evil effects of corruption on our societies.

8.      These workshops will be extended to other regional blocs as we continue the fight against corruption in a bid to transform our continent.

9.      As these strategic consultations continue, I call on relevant actors to focus on concrete solutions through best practices.

10.      The corrosive effect that corruption can have on societies was highlighted at the meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council held under the chairmanship of Nigeria in April 2018. The Open Session of the Council considered the link between corruption and conflict and its implications for peace and security in Africa.

11.    The Council concluded by highlighting the need to utilize South-South cooperation mechanisms through voluntary information exchange, mutual legal assistance and sharing of best practices among national anti-corruption agencies, audit agencies and investigative bodies.

Excellencies,

12. As we continue to commemorate the African Anti-Corruption Year, the scourge of illicit financial flows continues to bite, eating back the gains and militating against the attainment of our aspirations under Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

13.  I plan to convene the African Youth Congress in Abuja within the next quarter, and we will be working with the Chairman of the African Union, His Excellency, Paul Kagame and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, to organize an Interactive Dialogue on the theme at the next session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York during the high level segment.

14. We must all collectively work to place high on the agenda the need for open and participatory government, as well as the repatriation of stolen assets without procedural technicalities and legal obstacles.

Excellencies,

15.  The dedication of the theme of the year to Anti-Corruption is a first for the Union and the reason for this debate.

16. Before us, we have a panel of distinguished experts and practitioners in the field of anti-corruption. The diversity of the panel is testament to both the need for a holistic approach to combating corruption, as well as the deep interest that different actors have in the field.

17.  Distinguished panel members, we look forward to your insights and perspectives on the topic. But more importantly, we request your honesty and candidness.

18. Let me end my remarks by reiterating Nigeria’s abiding commitment to the fight against corruption.

19. I have the honour to formally open the debate.

20. Thank you for your kind attention

FOR THE RECORDS BY DR RAMATU ALIYU TIJJANI ALIYU (TEAM RAMATU)

It is unfortunate that after the just concluded APC National Convention, where some centrifugalforces insisted that the ever hard working cerebral Former National Women Leader, Dr Ramatu Tijani must go, even through manipulation, some low lives have chosen to continue to propagate their spurious lies that she did nothing whiles on the saddle. Fortunately, Dr Ramatu Tijani, being who she is has left everything in the hands of God, hoping that those who desperately wanted her out will focus on appropriating their ill acquired position and allow her to face her new endeavour. But no, they and their allies are consumed in their hatred and will not stop peddling lies about how she couldn’t solve their individual problems; even when it was obvious that the party did not place such resources at her disposal.

Even without funding for her office, Dr Ramatu Tijani did what her opponents will ever difficult to rival. We are waiting to see how much of their personal resources they will put into funding party activities as Dr Ramatu Tijani did.

It is on record that in the course of the women mobilization efforts in the lead up to the 2015 general elections:
1. Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu purchased, printed and distributed Thirty Thousand (30,000) Clothing-wrappers with PMB pictures to about Thirty Thousand (30,000) women across Nigeria. Paid out of her pocket, running into tens of millions of Naira in order to aid the mobilization of APC women.

2. She distributed Books, Stencils and School bags to Primary school pupils within the FCT and Environs in demonstration and support of the free education program as enshrined in the constitution of the party, APC.

3. She also distributed APC branded Bags of Rice, T-shirts, Face caps and APC Aso-oke (Head gears) in their thousands to enhance the electoral fortunes of the APC.

  4. She was everywhere with President Buhari campaigning; in the rain, and in the sun, to appeal to both lettered and unlettered Nigerian women to vote for our dear President and the APC in the 2015 elections.

5. She sponsored the Free Mama Kit for all Pregnant women for distribution during Antenatal clinics in Abuja and environs in the lead up to the Presidential election. .

6. She completed and tiled Orphanage schools, provided food stuffs, Generator sets, Slippers, Towels, Diapers, Infant formulas, Treated Mosquito Nets, Buckets, Toothbrushes in hundreds to Motherless Babies homes and homes for the less privileged. All without funds from the party.

7. She mobilized APC women and visited the IDP Camps on several occasions to donate Food items, Matrasses, Slippers, Bags of rice, Cartons of Spaghetti, Maggi cubes, Palm Oil and Groundnut Oil, Buckets, Treated Mosquito Nets in hundreds to give succor to the down trodden all in the name of PMB and APC.

8. She sponsored many Primary Common Entrance and Secondary school WAEC/ NECO and provided food for many students all in the name of the party.

9. She never stopped nor waited until it is available. In company of APC women, she took succor to the homeless Mother of the Benue Triplets and many other displaced victims of the Benue Flood.

10. She mobilized APC women to organize Roadshows, Carnivals, Processions and Match for PMB on several occasions and at different locations.

11. Throughout Ramadan periods (even under recession) when the down-trodden felt the pain like never before, she established several feeding centers for thousands of less privileged to feed during Sahur and Iftar.

12. Likewise to the Christian faithful, always played the role of a Mother and a hope of the Hopeless as she used her Charity Outreach to distribute branded Bags of Food stuffs, branded Cartons of Spaghetti, Dairy products, Clothes and Basic necessities to the Churches, Christian centers and Neighborhoods to put a smile on many faces, and touched many lives during Christmas and New Year periods in order to endear her party APC and PMB to the hearts of many Nigerian citizens.

The point must be made that the publicity and logistics components of the women mobilization campaign alone exceeds the ₦50,000,000.00 referenced above. Indeed what is apparent from the foregoing is that she expend her personal resources in the mobilization of women and even youths in her quest to ensure maximum support for President Buhari. She became poorer and not richer in the office but she was satisfied with the contributions she made trying to support President Buhari and the party.

And in case anybody is wondering why one who didn’t earn any salary from the party expended her personal hard earned resources on the campaign of Mr. President, wonder no more, it is an open secret within the APC family that President Muhammadu Buhari is not only a father but also a mentor to her, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu whom he has taken under his wings from the very inception of her political career. Her loyalty to PMB knows no bound and will therefore spare no expense to ensure his success.

Unlike her detractors, she will not play to the gallery just to invoke the favour of Mr. President because she is not a fair weather politician.

We therefore urge the peddlers of this unsavory and baseless allegations to retrace their steps and engage and focus on handling the office they have acquired by all means.

BETTER DAYS AHEAD

We are happy to be in the vanguard of Dr Ramatu Tijani believers and in the great future that awaits Nigeria.

We want to use this opportunity to tell the whole world that the outcome of APC National convention, especially as it relates to the re-election of Dr Ramatu as the APC National Women Leader, is consistent with democracy. We did not lose, it was only an opportunity to show our commitment to the progress of our party. The intrigues and turns and the outcome is definitely not a reflection of popular opinion on our team lead(Dr Ramatu) but a decision occasioned by elements who in are in no less struggle for superiority. But we are way ahead of that.

Hence, we urge all Nigerians to get ready for THE REAL DEAL. We are in for a higher calling and Dr Ramatu Tijani, our Cerebral Amazon and leader is getting set for the task ahead. Don’t dwell in the past, the urgency of the moment calls for focus and determination on THE TASK AHEAD. We are talking about a task more relevant and honourous. In the coming days, Nigerians will be lining up to join us and to identify with Dr Ramatu Tijani and her ideals. We urge all party fatefuls to take their position and make themselves relevant for THE NEXT LEVEL. We can only be judged by our RELEVANCE  and ACTIVE CONTRIBUTION and not by occupying a position.

Dr Ramatu Tijani is in HIGH SPIRIT. We are glad to let all concerned Nigerians know that we have been to her MOUNTAIN TOP and our eyes have seen the GLORY AHEAD.

In the meantime, whiles we are waiting for official announcement of the journey ahead, we will not allow anybody to rubbish our collective brand; Dr Ramatu Tijani. As our TEAM LEAD, we have the obligation to continue to protect her brand, hence she represent our brand. It is a collective and it is symbolic to us.

There is a lot of work ahead and we trust Dr Ramatu Tijani to lead our battle. DON’T FORGET THE NEXT LEVEL BECAUSE OF THE REAL DEAL.

THANK YOU ALL

FOR: TEAM RAMATU

I NEVER RECEIVED THREE HUNDRED MILLION NAIRA CAMPAIGN FUNDS FOR THE APC WOMEN MOBILIZATION IN 2015 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION-Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu

My attention has been drawn to a new campaign of calumny by forces conspiring  against my re-election into the office of the National Women Leader of the APC. The latest attempt to smear my hard earned reputation in order to discredit me in the eyes of the APC faithfuls and its Leaders has just been unleashed in the shape of a spurious allegation of ‘financial misappropriation of APC campaign funds’ to the tune of a whopping three hundred million Naira (₦300,000,000.00).

I have reliably gathered from an insider that having tried every trick in the book to pull me down in the forthcoming National convention of the APC without success, they have resorted to a crude distortion of history to achieve their sinister agenda. They have now curiously  alleged that I, Dr. Ramatu embezzled the sum of ₦300,000,000.00 meant for women mobilization during the last APC Presidential campaign. And that I have nothing to show for it in terms of mobilization and outreach programmes.

As ridiculous and unfortunate as this latest plot is, I am inclined to put the records straight and preserve my special seat in the annals of APC history. To this end I categorically state that I, Dr. Ramatu has aver and verily state that during the campaigns, I neither directly nor indirectly received the sum of ₦300,000,000.00 or any such sums for the purpose of women mobilization for the 2015 Presidential election of the APC or any other elections for that matter. This bogus half-truths only live in the imagination of my detractors.

The point must be made abundantly clear that I, Dr. Ramatu only received the sum of ten million Naira (₦10,000,000.00) from our father and leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for women mobilization; the same amount I graciously handed out to the Youth as well as the physically challenged wings of our great party the APC. It is equally noteworthy to reemphasize that the said ₦10,000,000.00 was judiciously and appropriately expended on vital components of our women mobilization drive in the lead up to the 2015 general elections, and the records are there for anyone who cares to know. Nonetheless, I will still go ahead to furnish interested parties with some details of our mobilization drive that has more than justified the ₦10,000,000.00 graciously given by our leader the Asiwaju.

It is on record that in the course of the women mobilization efforts in the lead up to the 2015 general elections:
1.     I, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu purchased, printed and distributed Thirty Thousand (30,000) Clothing-wrappers with PMB pictures to about Thirty Thousand (30,000) women across Nigeria. Paid out of my pocket, running into tens of millions of Naira in order to aid the mobilization of APC women.

The point must be made that the publicity and logistics components of the women mobilization campaign alone exceeds the ₦10,000,000.00 referenced above. Indeed what is apparent from the foregoing is that I had gone above and beyond the available resources to expend my personal resources in the mobilization of women and even youths in my quest to ensure maximum support for President Buhari.

And in case anybody is wondering why one who doesn’t earn any salary will expend her personal hard earned resources on the campaign of Mr. President, wonder no more, it is an open secret within the APC family that President Muhammadu Buhari is not only a father but also a mentor to me, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu whom he has taken under his wings from the very inception of my political career. I therefore urge the peddlers of this unsavory and baseless allegations to retrace their steps and engage me on issue based politics and campaign because that is the only strategy that will appeal to me.

Hajiya DR Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu.

I WOULD ANNOUNCE THE NAMES OF FIVE PERSONS WHO ARE RICHER THAN DANGOTE – BUHARI

In a chat with BBC, Hausa service, *President Muhammadu Buhari said he will very soon reveal the identities of five Nigerians, (who despite not engaged in any known Businesses, are richer than Africa’s acclaimed richest man, Aliko Dangote*.

According to the President  *the Wealth that Nigerians are supposed to enjoy had been looted away by these five, but surprisingly, as we engage them, some Nigerians are querying why we’re causing them unnecessary problems*”.

I HAVE NO REGRETS BEING AN HONEST PERSON, SAYS PRESIDENT BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Abuja said he had no regrets being a person of honesty and integrity.
“I am satisfied with what I am. I am happy I have kept myself and people close to me from benefiting from government contracts,” the President told a delegation of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria at the State House.

President Buhari said he did not award contracts and did not care about who got them so long as they did a good job at a cost that is justifiable to the nation.
According to him, “I have been in many places including (Ministry of) Petroleum. I would have gone to jail if I had taken an oil well. For integrity and honesty, I have no regrets. By this, I have contributed to my social safety. I won’t go to jail.”

The President, who said he had been accused of many things, said his critics cannot accuse him of stealing.
“You cannot accuse me of stealing,” he said, adding, “I have appointed ministers and they are in charge. I appeal to their integrity. When they come here (Federal Executive Council) Chambers, we ensure they follow the due process. If I owned an oil well, I would have gone to jail.”

President Buhari also responded to a number of issues raised by the delegation, including complaints that Muslims had been marginalised in appointments to government institutions such as the military and the civil service.

The President said this illustrated how difficult his job is because he faced the same criticism from adherents of other faiths. “I am in a difficult situation,” he admitted.

On the burning issue of violent conflicts in some parts of country, President Buhari said he was putting in his best. He said that following his dissatisfaction with the performance of the Police in Zamfara State, he ordered a massive transfer of officers and men who had stayed three years and above in the troubled State.

The President appealed to the religious leaders to instruct their followers on the importance of possessing their own voters’ cards which he described as a “national entitlement,” and to preach justice to all which is an instituted pillar of Islam.

President Buhari, who revealed that he had received a “stiff bill” from the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, for the restoration of the dilapidated infrastructure and facilities of federal government-owned radio stations in all states of the federation, promised that something would be done.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Vice-President, Sheikh Hadiyyatullahi Abdulrashid commended President Buhari for accomplishing much of what he promised before his election. He likened him to the captain of a capsizing ship and the messiah needed by the country.
Sheikh Abdulrashid also spoke about the alleged marginalisation of Muslims, violent conflicts between farmers and herders, the problems of drug abuse among youths and the fate of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Kaduna, among other issues.
