Buhari’s govt has zero tolerance for any form of corruption – SGF warns board chairmen

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, has warned chairmen and members of the governing boards of Federal Government agencies against corruption.

Mustapha gave the warning at the inauguration of the governing boards of parastatals under the supervision of the office of SGF on Tuesday in Abuja.

He urged the governing boards chairmen and members to live up to expectations as statutory bodies, saying that their main responsibility was to give policy direction to the management of their respective agencies.

“The present administration has zero tolerance for any form of corruption, and this stance must not be compromised in any way.

“Government will frown at and punish corrupt practices perpetrated by any board member as well as the management team of these agencies.

“Your agencies are critical to the achievement of the developmental goals of government, being implementing entities,” Mustapha said.

The SGF explained that board appointments were part time, urging them to allow their agencies to perform their duties without any hindrance.

He explained that their allowances and entitlements were guided by extant circulars that would be distributed to them in due course, urging them to acquaint themselves with these circulars.

Mustapha assured the boards of his support to ensure that their plans aligned with the objectives of the government to enable them to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

According to him, a joint retreat for management, chairmen and board members would soon be organised to deepen their understanding of the new policies and processes in governance.

Mrs Pauline Tallen, Chairman, National Agency for the Control of AIDS, on behalf of the board members, thanked the Federal Government for offering them the privilege to serve the country.

She pledged commitment of the boards towards complementing the efforts of the present administration in actualising its change agenda.

“I assure you of our commitment to help the Buhari administration achieve its goal.

All Senators Are With President Buhari – Senator Kurfi Speaks On 2019 Elections

– Senator Umaru Ibrahim Kurfi said the Senate is ready to support President Buhari’s 2019 ambition

– Kurfi also added that past leaders asking President Buhari not to contest in 2019 are merely envious of him

– He claimed the former heads of states are unhappy because President Buhari is performing better

The senator representing Katsina central, Umaru Ibrahim Kurfi, said former heads of states asking President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest for second term in 2019 are merely envious of the president and his achievements so far.

Senator Kurfi, while speaking at the closing ceremony of a one week leadership training programme organised by the National Committee of Buhari Support Groups (NCBSG) also said all senators are behind the re-election of president Buhari, African Journalist reports.

Kurfi said: “For Buhari to say governors should give him more time as regards 2019, for me, it is a wise decision. He cannot take the decision without consultation. He has to have some people who will advise him.

“I know Buhari is doing a very wide consultation and I am positive Buhari by God’s grace will declare his intention for his re-election in 2019.

“All Senators are with Buhari. I do not know of anyone who is on the other side. In the Senate we are the majority. They are all helping Buhari to come back in 2019. If Buhari does not come back or get re-elected then we are going to lose.”

On past leaders writing to advise the president not to seek re-election in 2019, Kurfi said those making such demands are envious of President Buhari. He said:”Those who are saying that he (Buhari) should not contest in 2019 are envious of him. These people are all former Heads of States. They did not perform during their tenure; they are envious of him. I do not blame them if it were you, you will do the same.

“They are not happy because he is performing. During their time there was a lot of corruption. As far as I am concerned President Buhari has performed excellently and there is no past president that has performed like him.

“For example there was a time that people cannot go to the mosque or church due to the fear of Boko Haram but now he has eliminated Boko Haram. The corruption which we inherited is no more. Buhari is a performer.”

President Buhari to reintegrate and Empower 30,000 ex-agitators in the Niger Delta region

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment in the re- integration and empowerment of ex-militants in the Niger Delta region.

Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh (retd), the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme disclosed this at National Committee of Buhari Support Groups (NCBSG) Training  in Abuja.

According to him,  in line with the ongoing reintegration process of 30,000 ex-agitators in the Niger Delta region, “the focus of the Presidential Amnesty Programme is to create the enabling environment for youths in the region, particularly the ex-agitators to have sustainable sources of livelihood as they are reintegrated into their communities.”

Boroh, reiterated government’s commitment to the training and empowerment of all beneficiaries captured under the programme.

He, however disclosed that more than 3,010 delegates recently exited the programme and had been empowered.

“Exiting from the programme is as a result of empowerment and delegates are given starter packs for their businesses.

“The office trains the ex-militants in various vocational skill centres and educational institutions in Nigeria and abroad,” he said.

According to him, the mandate of the office is not to provide jobs, but to train and reintegrate the ex-militants.

“Well, some people could argue that getting jobs for them is part of reintegration. We have to look into that to see how we can get these persons properly reintegrated,” Boroh said.

The presidential aide said that 200 ex-agitators had graduated from an advanced agriculture training at the Bio Resource Centre in Odi, Bayelsa State.

“We will explore the opportunity provided by the Federal Government so that our delegates that had been trained can be gainfully employed,’’ he said.

Boroh said that agriculture should be encouraged at all levels of national life so that the country could become a multicultural economy that depends less on oil.

He said youth unemployment remained a major challenge in the Niger Delta, and assured that the government would resuscitate the moribund industrial complexes in the region.

According to him, some of the industries include the Aluminium Smelting Company in Akwa Ibom and the Aladja Steel in Delta state.

“These would provide employment for tens of thousands of youths in the Niger Delta,” Boroh said.

Experts Score President Buhari High On Economy at NCBSG Training In Abuja

Economic experts gave the President Muhammadu Buhari administration high performance rating on the management of the country’s economy.

The experts who gave an in-depth assessment of the achievements of the Buhari-led federal government within the last two and half years in office noted that about N108 billion has been saved from removal of maintenance fees payable to banks before TSA.

Speaking in Abuja at the week-long leadership training programme organised by the National Committee of Buhari Support Groups (NCBSG) for its coordinators nationwide, the experts said the All Progressives Congress (APC) federal government has continued to save up to N24.7 billion monthly through the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy.

Those who spoke at the seminar include a Professor of Economics from the Nassarawa State University, Uche Uwaleke; Dr. Ben Obi of the department of Economics, University of Abuja; Chief Executive Officer of Comnavig, Femi Adeagbo and other participants.

Specifically, Prof. Uwaleke said the sudden and unexpected drop in crude oil price from a peak of $114.6-0/pbl in June 2014 to under $30 pbl by February 2016 created financial crises for the government.

He noted that the effective implementation of the Treasury Single Account has entrenched transparency and accountability in the Nigerian system.

He said, “N108 billion has been saved from removal of maintenance fees payable to banks before TSA. The nation is being saved N24.7 billion monthly with the full implementation of the TSA and implementation of the Bank Verification Number (BVN), thus tackling corruption by plugging loopholes for siphoning of public fund and tracking of illicit funds through multiple accounts”.

Uwalake also said it is a milestone in the nation’s history that the Buhari administration expended over N1.2 trillion on capital/infrastructure projects nationwide last year was.

On Social investment, Uwaleke said the N-Power Volunteer Scheme has created jobs for over 200,000 unemployed graduates in all the 36 states and the FCT.

He noted: “Ongoing Government Enterprise and Empowerment (GEEP) Scheme commenced in November 2016 in collaboration with the Bank of industry where soft loans ranging from N10, 000 to N100, 000 have been given to over 189,000.

“There is the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) scheme, under which about 25,000 less privileged Nigerians so far are now being funded with the monthly N5,000 stipend in 9 pilot states (Bauchi, Borno, Cross Rivers, Ekiti, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Osun and Oyo). More beneficiaries are expected to be added in more states.

“Nigeria successfully issued two Eurobonds (US$4.5bn), a Sukuk Bond (100 billion Naira), a Diaspora Bond (US $300m), and the first Sovereign Climate Bond in Africa, raising billions of dollars for infrastructure spending. This is testimony to investors confidence‘

“The federal government launched a Tax Amnesty scheme (VAIDS) designed to increase tax awareness and compliance, and reduce incidence of tax evasion. The Voluntary Income and Asset Declaration Scheme is expected to ramp up non-oil before it closes in March 2018”.

One of discussants, Dr. Ben Obi of the department of Economics University of Abuja, also gave his assessment of Buhari led government said the APC government has been able to deliver successfully some of the promises made in 2015.

Earlier, the chairman, Board of Trustees of the NCBSG, Senator Abu Ibrahim said the aim of the training was to help build effective leadership capacity among members of the support group ahead of the next general election

Buhari group begins leadership training for coordinators in Abuja

The National Committee of Buhari Support Groups (NCBSG) led by Senator Abu Ibrahim has kicked-off a one-week leadership training for its coordinators drawn from the states.

Senator Ibrahim, who is the chairman of the board of trustees of the group, said the aim of the training was to help build effective leadership capacity among members of the group ahead of the next general elections.

Represented by Zakari Aliu, the senator said the training, which would have presenters from various fields, would help in spreading the message of the successes recorded by President Muhammadu Buhari in the last three years.

He said the state coordinators would in turn train their members when they got back home, saying the populace needed to be kept abreast on the successes of the government in power in order to trust it with their mandate once again.

In his presentation, a Professor of Economics from the Nasarawa State University, Uche Uwaleke, who spoke on the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari, told the state coordinators that N108bn had been saved from the removal of maintenance fees payable to banks before the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

He said the APC- led government had received “high performance rating in the management of the nation’s economy, even as the government has continued to save up to N24.7bn monthly as a result of the TSA policy.”

He further said the Federal Government had expended over N1.2tn on capital/infrastructure projects nationwide, a development he said was an “unprecedented milestone in the history of Nigeria.

Professor Uwaleke said President Buhari needed to be commended for the N-Power Volunteer Scheme which had created jobs for over 200,000 unemployed graduates in all the 36 states and the FCT.

I’m laying foundation for equitable, progressive society–President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that that he is laying the foundations upon which an equitable and progressive society can be built upon.

Buhari, who spoke  in Port Harcourt at the South-South Zonal meeting of the National Committee of Buhari Support Groups (NCBSG), also said he wants to build a society where the citizenry can look forward to the opportunities for realising their full potentials without let or hindrance.

He stated that his administration was tackling theft, diversion and misappropriation of public funds, while diversifying the economy for sustained growth and tackling the myriads of security challenges bedeviling the land.

He said: “As a government, we are committed to laying the foundations upon which an equitable and progressive society can be built, in which all citizens can look forward to the opportunities for realising their full potentials without let or hindrance.

“This informed our actions in tackling theft, diversion and misappropriation of public funds, gradually but steadily diversifying the economy for sustained growth and tackling the myriads of security challenges bedeviling the land.

“While it is still work in progress, we are confident that the amount of work done in the first 32 months of this administration points to a new solid foundation for building the Nigeria of our dreams.

“Not only did we ease out of an inevitable recession in record time, our revenue profile, our foreign reserves and foreign investments are all on the rise again; and we have paid mobilized contractors back to project sites across the country, including the South-South Zone.”

The President, who was represented by his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, also made it clear that under the Land Use Act of 1978, he lacks the constitutional power to create cattle colonies across the country.

He noted that the provisions of the Land Use Act gave powers to state governors and local government chairmen to control land in their domain. He said that before Nigeria became a country, we had cattle routes running from Chad, Niger and other countries down to the Atlantic, but that when Nigeria became four regions, we had cattle routes in each of the regions.

President ‘Buhari can’t be blackmailed out of power

Increasing criticism and gang up will not force President Muhammadu Buhari out of the contest in the event he decides to go for a second term, a member of the APC campaign team in 2015 said yesterday.

Malam Mohammed Lawal who served as Deputy Director, Coordination/Implementation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in 2015, which worked for the emergence of President Buhari, said many people and groups were uncomfortable with President Buhari’s ‘pro-masses’ approach to governance, hence were deploying various tricks and sense of insecurity to undermine his popularity.

Speaking on phone at the weekend, Lawal, a board member of the NNPC, said:  “We are in politics; we would tackle any opposition, any group or gang up, be it a coalition or third force or whatever.”

Mohammed said it would be difficult to oust a sitting president on the pages of newspapers and denied that key people in the APC were planning to leave for the opposition.

“Now, who among the APC leaders enjoying the comfort of  government either as an appointee or elected official could afford to go and fish in a deep, dark, torturous and murky waters of political uncertainty?

“But I wish them good luck. It is just that we are not bragging and shouting the way they (opposition) are doing but the time would soon come. We don’t want to distract the government for now; we want the government to concentrate on doing what it has been elected to do but very soon we would devote our attention one hundred per cent to politicking,” he said.

Lawal also accused ex-President Obasanjo of attempting to sabotage the administration of President Buhari.

“What he is doing is not the way to express patriotism; Obasanjo is just fuelling tension and causing a lot of apprehension.

“He is still feeling Buhari era is like late Yar’adua era or Goodluck Jonathan era that he planted. We would not fold our hands this time around. We would fight back strongly. If the Federal Government is so careful in speaking out, we the supporters of President Buhari would not sit down and look,” he said

NIGERIANS REACT TO OBASANJOS LETTER TO PMB, QUERY HIS MORAL AUTHORITY..

Dear President Muhammadu Buhari,

I read the 14 page statement recently released by former President Olusegun Aremu Kikiola Obasanjo about your stewardship of our nation. Interestingly,  both of you were in the army. Both of you are retired generals. Both of you were Military and civilian Presidents. I read the contents of his letter. He is not an ordinary Nigerian and as a statesman,  he is in a vintage position to advise you during critical moments like this. Having said all these, I want you to note the following :

1. We are in a democracy and you are a Democrat. Therefore,  accept criticisms as you have always done.

2. Although some of the issues raised were exaggerated and the language used was very unpresidential and even somewhat suspicious, you must take it seriously and adress what you honestly consider genuine and in the national interest.

3. You should not lose sleep over Obasanjo ‘ s statement.  If you haven’t forgotten,  he installed the late Yar’adua as President against you but when he couldn’t remote control him, he fell out with him and wrote him a letter, the type he has just written you. It was the same Obasanjo who brought forth Johnathan , campaigned for him, nurtured his Presidency but still later fell out with him and still wrote him a letter, this same time of message sent to you.

4. Don’t forget that Baba Iyabo had publicly acknowledged your good character and commended your performance even in 2017. So if he condemns you publicly in 2018, it means the handshake has reached the elbow. You know he likes to be in charge and you are one person who belongs to no one and belongs to everybody. No wonder he stopped coming to the Villa and once that happened,  I knew his letter will not be long in coming and it came!

5. He confessed in his statement and I’m sure unconsciously that you have done well in security and the fight against corruption.  Are you surprised about his anger on your fight against corruption?  Well, no one will be happy to build a house and watch it brought down without being VERY ANGRY.  I don’t know who the father of corruption is in Nigeria but I know who institutionalized the “Ghana Must Go”  phenomenon in Nigeria. I know the President who had 20 thousands in his account but had many billions on leaving office.

6. You must take the observation on the economy very seriously.  You are trying but it’s still not good. Many Nigerians are weak in the stomach.  Take a hard look at those around you. I agree that some of them do not belong there. The EFCC has just arrested Babachir.  Don’t you think you still need to sack others like him hanging around you and leave EFCC to ask them some pertinent questions?

7. Don’t worry if you are criticized on your handling of the economy by a man who met the dollar changing for 22 naira but took it to 150 in just 2 years.

8. The man is trying to take the driver’s seat. Don’t you see the body language? His boys have been sent to seek the presidency.  One is in APC and the other in PDP. His letter coming at this time is a bell to announce the plans.

9. When Obasanjo arrested a sitting governor in handcuffs and sacked him from office, he also razed down Odi and eliminated everyone and everything in it. He declared a state of emergency in Plateau and forcefully removed senate presidents at will to show his presidential power. Oh my God! Where is Bola Ige,  Obsanjo’s Minister of Justice?  What of the charismatic Harry Marshal and all those brilliant Nigerians who dared to speak then? Even the one suffering from verbal dysentery,  i mean Fayose, understands the difference netwen OBJ and PMB. You are a Democrat.  Maintain the sanity of a president and civility of a Democrat.

10. Finally, did i hear that OBJ said you shouldn’t contest in 2019? I don’t know his source of moral at amino but a man who wasted billions in bribes to alter the constitution,  a man who had made himself the Mobutu of Nigeria can not stop a good man like you from being our President again. Power belongs to God. He determines who to give NOT Obasanjo. Let me  say that you are the best alternative we have right now. We know you need to really do more. We are with you. We want you. If God permits to be alive in 2019 and you contest, we will vote for YOU.
