Governor Masari Said Justice will be served in Katsina State

Katsina State Governor Rt. Hon.Aminu Bello Masari  has warned that government was determined to deal ruthlessly with violent offenders to make the society safe for law-abiding citizens.

Governor Masari, who spoke in Dungun Muazu village in Sabuwa Local Government area  recently, said that government had the resources, the personnel, the military might and the willpower to deal ruthlessly with anybody or group whose activities pose serious threat to peace in the society, stressing that his administration is determined to bring lasting peace in the state.

The Governor commiserate with the people of the area over the loss of eight members of the community who died following an attack by alleged cattle rustlers on Wednesday last week, he declared that there was no reason why some criminals would hold the society to ransome when “the government has the resources, the personnel, the military might and the willpower to deal with the situation for good”.

The Governor however, cautioned against blanket judgement on the activities of some criminals, saying it is wrong to regard all Fulani herdsmen as criminals.
He said that since no ethnic group had the monopoly of virtue or vice, it is therefore wrong on the account of the misdeeds of a few bad elements to generalise the entire members of the group as criminals.

Governor Masari also said much as the government was determined to bring the culprits to book, it was even more determined to ensure that the innocent is not wrongly punished, as doing so would amount to great injustice.

“We must not in our haste to bring the guilty to book punish the innocent. That would amount to great injustice”.

He charged security agencies and traditional rulers to be just and fair in their dealings with the people, stating that justice and fairness are the two most necessary ingredients for peace.

According to him, discontent in the society is often caused by the absence of justice and fairness from those in the position of authority.

“It is our duty as leaders to always be just and fair to the people, as only that will ensure sustainable peace in the society”.

Governor Masari also canvassed support for the Federal government’s Green Alternative policy to revive agriculture and livestock in the country, saying that while the two resources are everlasting, all other sources of income such as  crude oil and solid minerals are transient.

According to Governor Masari, the Green Alternative policy may only succeed when farmers and herdsmen live peacefully with one another.

Firm behind R500m De Roodepoort coal project was Gupta linked

Firm behind R500m De Roodepoort coal project was Gupta linked

THE company that said it planned to build a R500m, 1.44 million tonnes a year (mtpa) coal mine in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province – Centaur Holdings – is owned by the Gupta family, according to the Public Protector’s report into state capture.
The report, which was cleared for publication by South Africa’s courts yesterday, details the business relationship between the Gupta family and South African president, Jacob Zuma, Eskom and other state-owned companies. In many cases, the report alleges instances of malfeasance.
Centaur Holdings plans to build a mine on the De Roodepoort property which would supply run-of-mine tonnages of some 40,000 tonnes per month, possibly to Eskom, according to Wesley Grogor, group head of mining operations for Centaur. He added there was there was over 100mt of coal available in the De Roodepoort property of Eskom and export coal.

Centaur Holdings is based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and has Daniel McGowan as its CEO. The company said on its website that it has interest in developing coal properties in South Africa.
The firm’s key shareholders are Aakash Garg Jahajgarhia, who is married to the daughter of Anil Gupta, one of the Gupta brothers, according to the state capture report. Other shareholders include Simon Hoy, McGowan and David Silver.
The reason for Centaur Holdings’ mention in the state capture report is that the company signed a $100m (R1.4bn) revolving credit facility with an anonymous UAE-based family to expand its natural resources projects in South Africa.
Centaur is also one of the entities that contributed towards the R2.15bn purchase price of Optimum Coal Holdings by Tegeta Exploration & Resources, a subsidiary of Gupta company, Oakbay Investments.
“This is a key project for Centaur and demonstrates ambition and increasing size and scale of assets we are managing and attracting,” said McGowan of De Roodepoort in a company statement earlier this year.
The new order mining right for the property had been awarded for the properties by the Department of Mineral Resources, the company said.
It was now in the process of applying for environmental permits including an integrated water use licence (IWUL), a critical regulatory requirement ahead of mine development in South Africa.

Buhari is the best president; anyone complaining about him is Nigeria’s enemy – Tsav

Elder statesman and a former Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has labeled anyone complaining about the leadership style of President Muhammadu Buhari as an enemy of the country.

According to Tsav, Nigerians needed a leader like Buhari who was capable of leading the nation out of the mess caused by the previous administration.

Tsav was apparently reacting to a recent call by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Buhari to resign for allegedly “destroying” the economy.

He told Tribune that in a critical time like this, Nigeria “needs a leader like President Buhari to restructure Nigeria. The policies made so far, as well as anti- corruption crusade are needed tonic to get out of the problems we have found ourselves.

“Those complaining now are enemies of Nigeria. In a situation like this, before we get things right, there must be pangs of inconvenience and thereafter there is light at the end of tunnel. That is why I am appealing for patience, because everything will soon be right.”

forward from the economic quagmire, the outspoken former police boss said, “The way out is to continue to honour those who served this nation so as to boost the morale of Nigerians and encourage dignity of labour. But not to heap praises on those looters who have destroyed the country.

“Also, let the present administration strengthen the anti-corruption agencies to deal with all those corrupt leaders.

“Let me emphasise that President Muhammadu Buhari is doing the best thing in this direction and I appeal to Nigerians to be patient with him because the rot had been too much and to fix it will take a long time. But I think we are in a better hand to get out of the mess, which the past administration has thrown us into.”

He added that the whole problem with Nigeria today “started when military took over on flimsy excuses that the then politicians were corrupt. This was the narrative the military used to rubbish the then politicians.

“Whereas, these people were trained under the colonial masters and they have moral value; highly disciplined, honest, selfless service were the hallmark of this set of people.”

SMEDAN, GIZ partner on jobs creation

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) is to partner GIZ (a German Government Initiative) to create over a million jobs annually through the national Economic Advocacy for Growth of Local Enterprise (EAGLE).

The jobs are expected to cover the entire 774 local governments in the country and will be focused on micro, small and medium enterprises.

Director General of SMEDAN, Umaru Radda, stated this during EAGLE’s summit in Abuja.

The DG, who was represented by Wale Fasanya, described the initiative as huge and ambitious.

He, however, stated that it was achievable with the right support and buy-in of all stakeholders.

“It is our belief that if this programme is replicated in all states of the federation, it will salvage the overwhelming unemployment situation as well as address youth restiveness and other social vices currently faced by this country,” he said.

He described MSMEs as the engine of growth for economic development, observing that they contributed greatly to employment generation, utilisation of local resources as well as provision of platform for rapid industrialisation and rural revitalisation.

He said: “Following the recent collaborative survey between SMEDAN and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), it was revealed that of the over 37 million MSMEs, micro enterprises form the bulk with about 96.4 per cent. This clearly shows that the number of the micro enterprise is huge and should be nurtured accordingly.
“In order to create jobs and wealth that would facilitate self reliance and poverty alleviation, all hands must be on deck through a more coordinated approach at the federal, state and local government levels.

“SMEDAN would be very much favourably disposed towards collaborating with GIZ and lending the necessary support to ensure that the programme realises its objectives and becomes sustainable.
“The Agency is very much prepared and willing to sit down with representatives of the BDCN to work out a sustainable framework for the activities of the BDCN and its extension into other states of the federation.

“As a way forward therefore, the agency would immediately put all necessary mechanisms in place in order to secure the buy-in of all relevant stakeholders as well as sensitise and create awareness for the programme in all the 774 local government areas of the federation.
“Apart from this, the agency would also facilitate peer review meeting of the three pilot states in order to consolidate on the programme, facilitate the necessary network and to share experiences.”
