USA Today is being criticized for publishing an opinion piece on Wednesday arguing it�s �terrifying� that some Texas churchgoers were armed when Jack Wilson jumped into action and killed a mass shooter before he could shoot anyone else.

Wilson, a firearms instructor who was a volunteer member of the church’s security team, has been widely praised for his life-saving response, but Arizona Republic columnist Elvia Diaz found problems with the situation.

The piece, �Armed, even in church: Texas shooting is about a lot more than Jack Wilson’s heroism,� was published with the disclaimer that the views are the author’s and do not reflect USA Today�s leadership.

Diaz called Wilson a hero before claiming “unfortunately” the �split-second heroism has been turned into a PR tool by gun advocates.�

�We know nothing about the at least six other parishioners who also appeared to draw their handgun� and that’s terrifying,� Diaz wrote.

Diaz admitted that Wilson saved lives with a single shot and �other gun-wielding parishioners were ready just in case� he failed, but criticized why the churchgoers were armed in the first place.

No one country has sent more of its nationals to the United States over the last decade than China, newly released Census Bureau data reveals.

Between 2018 and 2019, China replaced Mexico as the largest sending country of foreign-born immigrants to the U.S. over the last decade. In 2006, more Mexican nationals arrived in the U.S. than Chinese, Indians, and Canadians combined.

Fast forward to 2018 and China now sends the most foreign-born immigrants to the U.S. � surpassing India, Mexico, and Canada. Since 2010, alone, China has sent more foreign-born immigrants to the U.S. than any other country.

India, too, has sent more foreign-born immigrants to the U.S. than Mexico since 2010 � a pattern of legal immigration that has shifted the wage and job burden from America�s blue-collar workers to the white-collar workforce.

Every year, about 1.2 million legal immigrants are admitted to the country, the majority of which immediately begin competing for U.S. jobs against America�s working and middle class.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to immediately hold an impeachment trial in a �manner worthy of the Constitution,� but did not specify when she will transfer two articles of impeachment to the upper chamber.

�In December, the House upheld its Constitutional duty to defend democracy For The People, honoring the vision of our Founders for a Republic. In an impeachment trial, every U.S. Senator is required to take an oath to �do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws,� Pelosi said in a statement.

�Leader McConnell is doubling down on his violation of his oath, even after the exposure of new, deeply incriminating documents this week which provide further evidence of what we know: President Trump abused the power of his office for personal, political gain,� the speaker added.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, speaking from the chamber�s floor Friday, rejected House Speaker Nancy Pelosi�s efforts to shape a pending impeachment trial as �fantasy��leaving the process at a standstill as lawmakers return from the holiday recess.

�Their turn is over. They�ve done enough damage. It�s the Senate�s turn now to render sober judgment,� McConnell, R-Ky., said on the Senate floor.

But he stressed that the chamber cannot hold a trial unless and until the House of Representatives transmits the two articles of impeachment adopted last month, accusing President Trump of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress pertaining to his dealings with Ukraine. Pelosi, D-Calif., has held onto them in a bid to seek favorable terms for a trial, including the involvement of certain Democrat-sought witnesses.

A bill pre-filed by a Maryland House member would set standards for animal shelters, with the goal of reaching a �save rate� of 90%.

The bill, sponsored by Del. Mark Chang, would require shelters to take a series of steps to reunite animals found as strays with their owners when possible.

The bill would require shelters to make an attempt to identify an animal by checking for license tags or microchips within 24 hours of housing the animal. They would also have to prominently post their hours and the process for owners to recover pets who end up there.

Two bloody tragedies, just a few hours apart on December 28-29�the mass stabbings at a synagogue in Monsey, New York, and the thwarted mass shooting at a church in Forth Worth, Texas�have put questions about guns and public safety in a valuable new light. How do we stay safe? Especially in our houses of worship? And what should we do about the menace of marauders in our midst?

Yet at the same time, we could also say that the New York and Texas attacks put the public safety issue in a valuable old light. How so? Because we are seeing the right of each state to make its own decisions�for better or for worse, as the case might be�as enshrined in our founding document, the U.S. Constitution.

That is, the Founders fully intended for the states, not the central government, to take responsibility for many matters. As James Madison wrote in Federalist #45, published in 1788 as the Constitution was being ratified, �In the first place it is to be remembered that the general government is not to be charged with the whole power of making and administering laws. Its jurisdiction is limited to certain enumerated objects. � The [state] governments � will retain their due authority and activity.�

This is federalism. Federalism is the principle that the states should be sovereign, operating within our national federal system; as Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis wrote in 1932, the individual states should each be �laboratories of democracy.� Hopefully, over the long run, these �laboratories� will all find their way to better results, although, of course, there can be no guarantee that every state will do the smart thing.

Anti-Trump dossier author Christopher Steele testified that he was �absolutely flabbergasted� when BuzzFeed published the dossier after an advisor to late Senator John McCain shared the controversial document with the media outlet purportedly against Steele�s wishes.

That tidbit was buried in a footnote on page 176 of the Justice Department�s recently released 476-page Inspector General (IG) report on the FBI�s Russia collusion investigation. Steele made the remarks about Buzzfeed and the McCain staff member during an interview with the IG.

The relevant footnote relates:

Steele testified in foreign litigation that he did not provide his reports to journalists or media organizations and did not authorize anyone to share them. According to the McCain Institute staff member�s testimony in the same litigation, Steele requested that the staff member meet with BuzzFeed, and that Steele neither requested nor prohibited the staff member from sharing the reports with BuzzFeed. Additionally, the staff member testified that Steele was aware that the staff member was furnishing Steele�s reports to The Washington Post.

Steele told the OIG that he trusted the staff member to handle his reports discretely and that the staff member betrayed that trust. Steele explained that the staff member had spent his career handling sensitive intelligence. Steele also said he understood from a former Ambassador that Senator McCain requested that Steele trust the staff member. Steele said he was �absolutely flabbergasted� when BuzzFeed published his election reports.

Iraqis celebrated in the streets after the head of Iran�s Quds military force Qasem Soleimani was killed in an airstrike on Thursday night.

Footage of Iraqis celebrating in the streets was shared by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as they waved the Iraqi flag and cheered the news.

A TV correspondent from Alhurrra News noted that some Iraqis were baking cakes to thank President Trump.

While listening to the Rush Limbaugh show this past Monday, I heard guest host Todd Herman interview an Australian pediatrician and professor on the issue of gender dysphoria and children. Near the end of the enlightening interview, in which the good doctor detailed the “serious and irreversible damage” done to gender-dysphoric children given radical surgeries and hormones demanded by the perverse LGBT agenda, Mr. Herman asked the important question: “Why?”

I don’t recall the exact wording of Mr. Herman’s question, and RushLimbaugh.com does not provide a transcript for guest-hosted shows, but it was something along the lines of this: why have so many decided that the solution for children � children! � suffering from gender delusions is disfiguring surgeries and dangerous hormone treatments? The doctor didn’t have a good answer ready, but I think I know who’s really behind this evil and what the endgame is here.
